Citroen Mehari

This immaculate Citroen Mehari has recently undergone a full sympathetic restoration and is in amazing condition. It is the rare two seater version and is on Spanish historic plates and comes with a 4 year ITV. It also has electronic ignition meaning hassle free running in the hot temperatures of Spain.

A Few Mehari Facts

The Citroën Méhari was made between 1968 and 1988. It is based on the chassis and engine of the Citroën 2CV, with bodywork made from ABS plastic. In total, around 140,000 Meharis were produced.

There was one version with front-wheel drive and another with four-wheel drive. The car was particularly popular in France, but less so in Belgium and the Netherlands – probably because the weather is not so good. The name refers to the word "méhariste", a French colonial soldier in Algeria who rode a camel.

There are various types of Meharis: a distinction is made between the old type and the new type. There are also versions for 2 people and for 4 people.
The Mehari was very popular in a whole range of French films and series, with the best-known, of course, being Louis de Funès.

In addition to employing mass production, he also supplied cars that were ready to drive from the factory gates, cars that were fitted with bodies. Prior to this the norm was for a body to be bolted to a chassis. Furthermore, he created a dealer network across France that serviced his vehicles and he provided road signs for the French road network.

He was a caring employer, setting up medical and dental facilities and a gym in his factories and providing care for his workers' children.
