The Fiat Panda is a city car manufactured and marketed by Fiat, now in its third generation. The first generation Panda, introduced in 1980, was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and Aldo Mantovani.
The second generation Panda debuted in 2003, with almost no direct engineering linkage to the first generation. In its development phase, the Panda was intended to be called "Gingo", but Renault objected because it sounded too close to their Twingo.
In 37 years Panda production has reached over 7.5 million, of those, approximately 4.5 million were the first generation.

Fiats Early Years

Fiat’s story begins in 1900 when Italian entrepreneur Giovanni Agnelli opened the first Fiat factory in Turin, Italy. Agnelli founded the car company with a group of local investors, calling their newest venture: Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT), or Italian Automobile Factory of Turin. Their first factory was quite small, employing only 150 people on a daily basis. But the tiny automaker proved successful in its home country, which cleared the way for Agnelli to establish the first Fiat factory in the U.S. in 1908.
