BMW Launched the second generation X5 (E70) in November 2006, replacing the E53 model. The E70 is 60 mm wider and 165 mm longer than the earlier E53 model and the wheelbase is longer by 110 mm, but the height remains the same. The mark 2 X5 features many new technological advancements as standard equipment including BMW's iDrive system, and electronic 'joystick' gearshift.
The interior of the new, larger, X5 is completely new. It has a large centre-mounted display screen and the simplified iDrive, a man-machine interface system also found in the rest of the BMW model range. The new X5 optional extras include a glass panoramic roof, and, for the first time in a BMW, an optional two extra rear seats.
