The Opel Mokka is a compact crossover SUV sold by German car manufacturer Opel since 2012. Sales began with the model year of 2013, at the end of 2012. In 2016, the Opel Mokka was renamed to the Mokka X. It is also sold under the Vauxhall brand in the United Kingdom, and as the Buick Encore in North America and in China. By February 2013, Opel had over 80,000 Mokka orders, and after two months 100,000 orders. By October 2014, over 300,000 Mokkas were ordered in Europe. In January 2016, Opel announced 500,000 firm orders for Mokka overall.

A Brief History Of Opel

In 1862 and after years of employment as a journeyman metalworker, Adam Opel goes into business in his hometown of Rüsselsheim where he builds his first sewing machine. In 1899 Opel makes its international motor sport début. In 1929 General Motors acquires 80 percent of shares in Adam Opel AG for just under 26 million dollars.
In 1944 allied bombs destroy half of the Rüsselsheim plant and the Brandenburg plant is almost completely destroyed. In 1971 the ten-millionth Opel rolls off the assembly line in the Rüsselsheim plant. The Opel Group GmbH was established effective July 1, 2014 as a sister company of Adam Opel AG. This new company is responsible for Opel/Vauxhall as well as all GM operations in Europe.
